One Day Stronger

On March 8, 2021, after two years of intensive interviews, Tom proudly published his book One Day Stronger: How One Union Local Saved a Mill and Changed an Industry – and What it Means for American Manufacturing. The riveting story details how Tom as County Executive was able to save the century-old Appleton Coated Paper mill from closing when the big banks wanted to shut it down, taking 300 union jobs with it. Together with the local labor union and community and business leaders employing creative strategies, the paper mill is still up and thriving today.
